There is nothing like lying face first into the word of God as tears mixed with snot run down my face into the frail pages of scripture.
Tears of joy and sorrow mix into one emotion, in my head I feel like a schizophrenic, but my spirit and soul confirm it is the good Lord's Spirit giving me rest and healing.
Every passage of scripture jumps out of the page right into my heart. Which seems to fuel this fire in my heart that longs for more of Jesus.
I can't help not to share this experince through twitter. Or blogging. But its is one of those things in which I'm sure you have to experince to know what I'm talking about.

This morning I spent two extra hours in bed going spear fishing catching a hand sized mahi. I looked at my phone and it was alreay 11 a.m. I love monday mornings its very slow an quite, but still semi productive. Kinda like listening to Nora Jones.
Lately I have this obsession with pouring lots of honey into my glass of milk. Its like natures energy drink.

Letters from J.B.R. Part 2
bro this week i had another incredible revelation of Jesus! God is soo good.
During the study of the book of Romans and Collossians God really convicted me and gave me this new sense of freedom.
I should share it with you and see what you think.
Well in Romans 1 it talks about the sinful nature, that as humans we are born into sin, and if we are not huge "sinners" if we break one law we are guilty of them ALL.
Well from what I can understand from studying and in faith that everything good, and not of that sinful nature is God working in us.
That ALL, good is God. Because the only thing we as humans can do is sin. And that "our righteouness are filithy rags".
But through Jesus He has taken our old nature and crusified it upon Him self. ("He had no sin, became sin." )
In exchange for what Jesus desrved ALL GLORY AND HONOR, God gave it to us. Talk about mercy and grace!!!
Now when we accept Christ it is He who is working in us thorugh His Spirit. And not us. Because apart from Him we can do no good.
So sovereign God does get His way, in us. And that all good that is done in this world is from Him. Because apart from Him there is no good.
And now the question is still, How much of God do you want to experince?

So God is sovereign in our lives when we accept him.
and god will get his will done in those that let him. the redemptive plan is basically dependant on us?
so its those of us who allow him to work through us irrelevent of prayers we;ve said? and to what extent just once? or continual?
woah this is good for my brain. its the opposite of where ive been going.
"God will always get His way. Just the time and how it gets done I think is the question." - i think i trully agree with this statement. even if it takes him longer then we can imagine.
dude i want to have sooo many theological discussions with you. you combine passionate servant hearted love with an intellect that is deep and wise but makes sense. i need to talk to you about girls a lot too because im sooo confused... when do i get one and where do i find her?
my trip was incredible. i learned and saw soo much. my brain has completely changed since there. it seems like god is giving me little bits and pieces to slowly change how and who i am to get me somewhere. i want to get there quicker but hes taking me slow which is awesome.
i love that you are more intune to the holy spirit. i want that more.
please jesus release the holy spirits power in all of the lives of people sam touches and inspires. make the valley even deeper for a time lord so he gets that much closer to you and give him space to just spend time with you father.
AMEN
how hungry are you for God sam?
And what does the fullness of God look like in us?

This morning I spent 40 minutes of my life shooting zombies in space on Call of Duty. Sometimes in the game an astronaut "which you think would be your friend" comes by and if you get to close to him he holds you and headbutts you into another place.
Today I felt like that same astronaut came and headbutted me into another place. Today being on planet earth just dosen't feel the same. I feel my soul is longing for more than what I just can see with my bare eyes. I have a sligh discontent in my gut.
I think about all the people in this world and how zombie like lives we live. Mindless, careless, and out to eat one anothers brains. Maybe I've been playing too much video games?

hey brodurh!!!
you know i don't know much about the soveriegnty of God, but I'm pretty sure I experince it everyday.
I think people are very sensitive in this subject because it usually rocks there world and everything they knew, learned, or even thought about who God is.
All I know in the bible it says that when we accept Jesus into our hearts, we have the fullness of God dwelling within us.
And that is when Jesus is truly Lord Soveriegn in our daily lives becasuse we are no longer under the worlds rule but Gods. So he can rein in our lives.
And by having the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead in us, the same spirit of God, eternity is in our hearts. Therefore God already and will, and has always have had his way. Because that was His redemtive plan after adam sined.
His soveriegn plan to exchange our death for life. Through Jesus. Now we have everything we need to do the will of God. By His spirit.
Now does every christian listen and obey God? I don't know. Probaly, probally not.
So does God still get his way? I think so, God is looking for people to partner with Him, and if one dosen't He looks for another.
He is looking for people who are willing, open, and submitted to His spirit.
And we with our faith, knowledge, wisdom, gifts, and talents, and AUTHORITY which comes from Christ is abel to do all things through Him.
God will always get His way. Just the time and how it gets done I think is the question.
Well I think that is my thoughts. I try to keep it biblcal.
So, first all I miss you! Secondly. I wish we could have amazing theological chats about life, girs, and God! and last, how was your trip and travels??!!! what did you learn or experince that changed your life and thinking?
This month has been really busy. I feel like I am in the deepest valley I have ever been in for a while, but the great news is, that the river flows best in valleys. So though I feel down most days, my spirit seems to be more sensitive and in tune with the Holy Spirit.
I have had a llot of visitors this month so no alone time for reflection or good quality God time. But thats ok.
Just more dying to the flesh.
This week is busy as well, I am speaking at a few places this week. Probally hoping to release the Holy Spirit power in people lives.
Lately I've been learning that God dosen't need to use people. He just choses to do so. And that for me, weither He choses me or not isn't really a big deal.
But the question I ask myself is How hungry am I for God?
I've been learning that we have the fullness of God in us. (collossions 2), that everything we need dwells in us. The spirit of God.
We are made holy, perfect, pure, righteous through Jesus. We are these things, and that nothing can change it.
Sin is no more, the old flesh is dead. We are holy.
Anyways, that is too much for now. Let me know what you think.
love ya pal!!!

Today I slept all day. I slept so much that I only woke up when I had a headache from dehydration. I took my kirkland costco multi vitamin pack to compensate for not eating.
I finally got out of my bed at 5p.m. The sun was going down.
For the past 3 days I was camping, it was really hard to sleep so I guess I had 3 nights of not sleep catch up with me today. That's ok. Because the only thing on the news that happened today was this: http://mauinews.com/page/content.detail/id/552602/New-ways-to-play-in-Kihei.html?nav=10
Which wasn't all that interesting anyways.

Men's Camp in Keanae 17-20 Aug. 2011
I just got back from 3 days of camping with the Maui Men's Ministry of God. Before I left my dad asked where I was going and I said camping at a men's camp. He said in a confused pigeon tone "why only going get men, what kind camp that?" (Implying that camping should never be with just a group of guys)
But I told him the purpose of the camp was to encourage, build up, and pray for the island of Maui with the men who live in it.
So there was 135 guys in all. The theme of the camp was "Living Waters". The common word was that the God that created the universe lives in us as christians. And that we have the power to release that power to others in prayer for healing, casting out deamons, encounters with the holy spirit, etc.
And that privilege comes through Jesus dying on the cross. That once and for all Jesus made us full and holy in exchange for His death as He took what we deserved on the cross as He died.
We no longer are slaves to sin. We are made righteous and holy through the payment of Jesus sacrifice.
Other than that everyday in the beautiful camp site of Keanae, I still had allergies, I got by misquitos at night, and I had thoughts of my comfortable bed at night laying on plastic matresses on the ground.
One of my favorite parts of the camp was the unity we had with the different parts of the chruch body represented. Together we had quality conversations, four star meals, and one million dollar view of the gorgeous island of Maui.
Many got healed of past hurts, fears, and old ways of thinking.
As for me my mind is being renewed even now, trying to make sense of all that happened, soaking in all the words that was said, and trying to gain new fresh living understanding of the word of God.

But let all those who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice; let them ever sing and shout for joy, because You make a covering over them and defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You and be in high spirits. Psalm 5:11

Today I am listening to a song called "Dead Disco" by the Metric. I would think that it would sound more upbeat than it sounds right now. The lady singer seems to not like singing very much and I can't imagine you could roller skate to this song, I guess thats why its called "Dead Disco".
My new favorite show currently is "Bar Rescue" on Spike television, its entertaining because I didn't realize how much bar owners don't really know how to run a bar. It's not like I know how to, but the guy on the televission show makes me feel like thats what I would of said to him too.
I guess you would have to seen the show to know what I'm talking about.
This afternoon is a buys one. I am trying to juggle 5 things at once. But thats ok, because I work from home today, when I get board or tired of working I can just play Mortal Kombat on x-box 360.

SLOWDANCE
S L O W D A N C E:
Have you ever watched kids
on a merry-go-round
Or listened to the rain
slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic
flight
Or gazed at the sun into the fading
night?
You better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last
Do you run through each day on the
fly
When you ask "How are you?"
do you hear the reply?
When the day is done,
do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
running through your head?
You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last
Ever told your child,
We'll do it tomorrow
And in your haste, not see his
sorrow?
Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
'Cause you never had time
to call and say "Hi"?
You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting
there.
When you worry and hurry through your
day,
It is like an unopened gift....
Thrown away...
Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

Today I was on facebook and I stumbled on one of my friend who I did not know had a facebook. He was ridding an elephant with what seemed to have an upgrade from most elephants that you ride on.
The man driving the elephant had a rice hat, the kind that Kung Lao (from Mortal Kombat) wore. And seemed to be dressed in red and yellow silk. But I'm just guessing the materieal cause I wasn't there.
The elephant had a stage in the back of its back, in which I could imagine gypsy's dancing or a fire works stand. But in this picture there was nothing in the back just a fancy red mat.
On top of everything there were two cars in the background one what seemed to be following the elephant and one by stander car, I saw the people in the background waving.
I'd like to think the people in the background were my friends, and they were saying "man, look at that guy ride that elephant, I wish that was me."

Your iPersonic Type: The Analytical Thinker
Analytical Thinkers are reserved, quiet persons. They like to get to the bottom of things - curiosity is one of their strongest motives. They want to know what holds the world together deep down inside. They do not really need much more to be happy because they are modest persons. Many mathematicians, philosophers and scientists belong to this type. Analytical Thinkers loathe contradictions and illogicalness; with their sharp intellect, they quickly and comprehensively grasp patterns, principles and structures. They are particularly interested in the fundamental nature of things and theoretical findings; for them, it is not necessarily a question of translating these into practical acts or in sharing their considerations with others. Analytical Thinkers like to work alone; their ability to concentrate is more marked than that of all other personality types. They are open for and interested in new information.
Analytical Thinkers have little interest in everyday concerns - they are always a little like an “absent-minded professor” whose home and workplace are chaotic and who only concerns himself with banalities such as bodily needs when it becomes absolutely unavoidable. The acknowledgement of their work by others does not play a great role for them; in general, they are quite independent of social relationships and very self-reliant. Analytical Thinkers therefore often give others the impression that they are arrogant or snobby - especially because they do not hesitate to speak their mind with their often harsh (even if justified) criticism and their imperturbable self-confidence. Incompetent contemporaries do not have it easy with them. But whoever succeeds in winning their respect and interest has a witty and very intelligent person to talk to. A partner who amazes one with his excellent powers of observation and his very dry humour.
As an Analytical Thinker you are one of the introverted personality types. You are not particularly suited for dealing with others, working as a part of a team and be in the position of “continuous exchange“, you would much rather work alone, and dwell on your thoughts undisturbed. You usually put a critical distance between yourself and others that enables you to be the keen and incorrupt observer of life.
This distance can be truly bridged by only very few other people. That is probably caused by the fact that you are not all that interested to share your thoughts with others. Generally it is sufficient for you to have clarified a matter for yourself or that you have understood something; the continuous in your eyes mostly superficial chatter of the people around you becomes rather annoying.
You prefer to work independently and appreciate having a lot of time and quiet in order to concentrate on the really important things: Structuring ideas, comprehending complex causalities, understanding of the universe, its rules and the logical analysis of systems. You absorb new information like a sponge and your memory is legendary. Once you have learned something, you’ll never forget it - unless you consider it to be irrelevant for some reason and decide that it seems to be better purging it from your data storage.
Creative problem solving and jumping out of your paradigm to development daring future visions are a part of your greatest strength. At the same time you are the most acute and rational critic of your own ideas, each one of them will be rigorously examined and discarded at the smallest indication of contradictions or lack of logic. You usually leave the implementation to others and prefer to turn to new theoretical reflections. Especially in case of self employment (in your case a real possibility) it is important to surround yourself with hands-on oriented and dependable employees who make sure that your incredible suggestions for solutions become reality while you return to immersing yourself in your intellectual world.
That is also preferable because you hate details and don’t like to work with the obvious. Professions where accuracy and routine are important are agony for you. You would probably be deathly unhappy as an accountant or internal revenue official.
Slumdog Hotel
Tonight after church I spent my late night hours at the Four Seasons Hotel, in the jacuzzi right next to the beach, right next to a 12 ft. fountain of water blasting into the clear stary night sky. As rich people sipped on their expensive wine and smiled as they passed by.
Out of all the conversations my friends and I had; like talks about Dinosaurs still being alive, Dolphins beig able create air bubbles and toss them like a game, and zip lining sunburnt; one of the words someone said stook out to me the most.
My friend had just came back from India (where the people look like from Slumdog Millionare), so she was explaining the cultural diffrences, poverty, hardships etc., of that trip she experinced to my other friend. And she said despite the fact that most Indian people don't have anything they are some of the happiest, relational people she has met. (well most of them where the christian ones)
But as she was speaking I had a realization that the biggest diffrence between most rich and poor people is that rich people just have more materilistic crap. That the more money people have, most of the time means they have more junk.
And now the question is, what kind of junk do you spend with your money?
For me a personal conviction has struck home with not spending money on no more junk. As a person that follows Christ I think we should be amazing inverstors and stewarts of what we have been given.
I think our mindsets should change from "what I can get" to "what can I give". And I'm not saying to give stupidly, but to use wisdom, heck to ask God what to do with what we have.
Time, money, strength is the Lords. So why not ask Him what to do with it instead on buying that new thing that looks cool that you kinda like.

In hawaian mythology it was said that Maui was a man who's job was daily to draw the sun to this island everyday.
In hawaian mythology it was said that Maui was a man who's job was daily to draw the sun to this island everyday. In the bible it said that the son of God is draws man to himself. (John 12:32)
I think following Jesus Christ takes faith. Faith that everyday it isn't my job to draw the sun to man, that I need a mind set shift, change, or revelation that its not wholey up to me to in a sense hold Jesus by the hand, drag him down from the right hand of the Father and introduce Him to the lost.
In the bible I am begining to understand that God's heart is always for the lost. And He is drawing man to himself (and has always been).
So what makes me think I can do a better job than God?
(A saying not easily said for someone like me who is an passionate advocate for Christ)
But this morning as I was watching the sunrise on the beautiful island of Maui, I began to understand that it is because of Christ in our daily lives and our submissive way to the Holy Spirit the lost will have and see the beautuy of the son risen in us here on earth.
A contagious fire.
That it isn't by works that will draw people to God, it is simply God living in us.
That I think is the beauty of following Jesus Christ. Everything else will follow after.
That the more I find myself indulging, plunging, and submitting my whole being to the will of God; the more I find myself passionate in everything I do, full of color, and full of life.
And I think that is why when we die to self, we are risen new; with Christ to draw people to God through the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, and that my friend will shine brighter than the stars.

Journal entry #2 August 5, 2011
Today I am watching the new Transworld Skate Video on my laptop while the I-carly t.v. show distracts me from my real mission today. It is my Australian's friend last day here on the island and we are planning to go pirate rafting down Iao valley round 2 with blow up wallmart pool toys that are in a shape of a pirate ship. Yes I know way cool.
But the humid windy heat disables me from even stepping out from my front door. I guess pirate rafting can wait. Nazi Zombies here i come.

Messed Up Missiology
Under: Missiology,Missions
“No one has the right to hear the gospel twice, while there remains someone who has not heard it once.” - Oswald J. Smith
I ran across this quote on a colleague’s website. I’m not sure who Oswald J. Smith is/was, and I’m not particularly interested. His sort of guilt-inspired, task-oriented, logic-based, marketing-ploy, pop missiology is exactly the sort of thing I was referring to in my last post. It has infected our understanding of what missions is, who God is, and how He works.
Let me be clear: My concern is not necessarily with current missions strategy, it’s with our missiology. What, you might ask, is the difference? It has to do with motivation; both ours- in what guides us in service, and God’s- in what He’s doing globally and why. Just as the practice of our faith is determined by our theology, our mission strategies are derived from our missiology. So I’m not talking here about whether we use tracts or Jesus Films or relational approaches to church planting. I’m not even talking about whether we should even be trying to plant churches. My contention is this: We have bad missiology.
For starters, we make an unnecessary distinction between “missions,” and, well, everything else. Why do we apply Luke 10:2 (“the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few”) to missions, but not Luke 10:27 (“love your neighbor as yourself”)? Where does our understanding of missions come from?
Take the quote above, for example: “No one has the right…”? What does that mean? Is hearing the gospel a right? Is it a privilege? I guess Mr. Smith would say that the first time is a right, and the second a privilege. What biblical support do we have for either?
Is the goal of missions that people hear? What about incarnation? Discipleship? Is missions nothing more than proclaiming the gospel, giving people “a chance to hear” it? Many missionaries approach their work as though missions was about spreading information. Surely we need proclaimers, and it is a vital part of missions, but I believe it is only a part.
(Another part, one that we rarely focus on, is worship as missions. John 12:32 -”I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.” I get that He’s alluding to the cross, but I think that worship is underrated as a missional activity. Maybe that’s another post…)
Back to the quote: is it really ours to decide who should hear and who should not? Even after years of proclamation, are we ever in a position to say whether a person (or people group) has heard the good news in a way that they can understand and respond to? I believe that the Spirit should guide all of our evangelistic efforts, and that He should be the one to lead us in when to share, and with whom (and when to keep quiet!)
I cannot accept a missiology that essentially puts us on “auto-pilot” in terms of to whom we should go. The second we assume where and in whom God is going to work, we get ahead of Him and disqualify ourselves from full participation in what He’s doing. This missiology is essentially either/or; missions is either relating to those people that God leads us to, or it is targeting the next “lostest” people group according to our statistics and research. It cannot be both, because the second assumes a monopoly on the first. How else can we explain so many of our workers feeling called to work among “reached” peoples?
God is at work redeeming humankind to Himself. I believe that missions is crossing cultural barriers to be part of that. Until we seriously rethink our missiology, we will continue to build our strategies on a broken foundation.
